Changes in local demographics pointing to a spike in population recently became an area of concern for Waubonsee Community College (WCC) in Sugar Grove, Illinois. That would ultimately lead to an increase in college enrollments, thus impacting the usage of campus facilities and affecting the entire community.
To get ahead of any potential challenges, the school unveiled a new field house as a part of five new buildings in its “College Master Plan.” Completed in the spring of 2015, the 59,000 square foot space houses basketball, soccer, and baseball and came along with the need for customized storage.
To assist in making this a first class facility, Aurora Storage brought their expertise to campus and installed numerous custom-designed storage systems with a deep red finish, matching WCC’s school colors. These are located conveniently throughout the field house and provide a home for exercise equipment for each department, such as yoga mats, free weights, team uniforms, and other sport-specific gear.
Inside the field house, areas of caged storage for golf and tennis equipment were outfitted with a combination of Aurora Storage shelving components. These included open shelving for equipment, tall shelving with a garment rod for uniforms and street clothes and locking tambour doors to protect expensive equipment; and a locking cabinet above the open shelving for the ability to safely store other items, like keys or wallets.
Aurora Storage didn’t stop there, creating customized solutions for video and IT equipment, athletic department promotional banners, and other game-day support items. In addition to providing Aurora Combination Units featuring locking drawers and open shelving for the field house’s administrative offices, Aurora Wire Shelving was also installed near sports drink coolers for the student-athletes and in the prep area of the concession stand.
For Dave Randall, Athletic Manager at WCC, the decision to trust Aurora Storage with this project has proven to be the right one. “It’s such a wonderful opportunity for our athletes to have first-class facilities where they can practice, train, and condition,” he says.
Tim Betustak, Facilities Specialist at WCC, agrees. “Aurora Storage was great to work with and arrived at the perfect solution for our new facility,” he says. “The coaches are so satisfied. They’re like kids in a candy store.”
